Did you miss Fair Fashion’s annual pop-up sale? That’s alright, let me clue you in on all the fun you missed!
What is the pop-up sale anyway?
We connect with vendors that sell art, jewelry, accessories, and clothing that resonate with our values and give them a platform to sell their products. While the sellers were limited to UGA students and alumni, the crowd was not! Anyone in the community was welcome to come and shop.
Where was it?
This year, it was at Starlite Showroom on April 1st from 12-4 pm. We hosted it alongside the lovely Luna Paluck (@pureheart.shop on Instagram). We host it off campus so that it is easier to get the community involved and because of the sheer size of the crowd we draw.
What’d I miss?
Unfortunately, you didn’t just miss out on so many cool vendors. We had live music thanks to Panic Wave(@panic_wave on Instagram). Starlite was also open during the sale, so if you wanted vintage furniture, decor, or art, all you had to do was head indoors. In addition, a nice surprise we had was cotton candy! The owner of Starlite’s daughter was raising money for a field trip by selling cotton candy in five different flavors. Overall, you missed out on a lot of fun.
Who should I check out?
Bronson Leatherworks and Wynne Official are two of the many amazing vendors that set up shop last Saturday.
Bronson Lott uses vegetable-tanned leather, ethically sourced from meat industry waste to create his products. If you want technique and craftsmanship, look no further than Bronson Leatherworks. When asked about his efforts in sustainability, he said to really research what you’re buying and also selling to people. “I thought I was pretty well informed on what I do until I went to markets and people had these questions for me[about ethical leather], and then I had to just do even more research.” He is not only a seller, but an educator.
Meredith Bruening upcycles second-hand clothing and materials into her creations for Wynne. She’s shown her love for the community with her fun designs. It doesn’t hurt that she’s a Fair Fashion Member. When asked how to start upcycling, she said to just go for it. “Feel free to make mistakes. Like it's okay. People are super supportive, especially this community”.
Is it worth going to?
If you were looking for like-minded individuals to connect with, it was the perfect place to meet them! The crowd that Fair Fashion’s event draws is certified cool. Why? They are associated with us, obviously.
Dang, wish I hadn’t missed it. What’s the next event I can go to?
Our next event is a Clothing Swap at Community in Downtown Athens! It’ll be Sunday, April 23. Make sure to keep an eye on our Instagram for all the info!
