Fair Fashion Clothing Swap
Fair Fashion's first ever clothing swap was held on April 10th 2021 with over 40 participants. The goal of this event was to give unwanted articles of clothing destined for landfill a new life, and to educate participants on sustainable fashion. Students were encouraged to bring clothes, shoes, and accessories in good condition to swap with other students. Items were assigned a value and were available to swap with other items of the same value. Fair Fashion was able to donate all of the excess clothing collected to Athens Food for Lives to support members of the unhoused community in Athens.
Fair Fashion Sustainability Panel
Fair Fashion's first ever sustainability panel was held to educate the UGA community on the environmental impact and human rights violations brought on by the fashion industry and to discuss the interconnection between mass consumption, scarcity, supply chain economics, and individual agency. Panelists included local Athens business owners Sanni Baumgartner of Community and Kim Woods of Willaby, along with fashion historian and writer Sara Idacavage, and teacher, researcher, and organizer Tessa Maffucci.
