Dawgs who Drip: An Interview with Fogue Athens

You are bound to see a range of unique fits on a campus as large as UGA. From flowy midi

skirts to bell-bottom jeans, the streets of Athens have been quite colorful; despite the diversity in outfits, Athens has been subjected to harsh perceptions of what students actually wear. The Instagram Page, Fogue Athens, saw this as an opportunity to create a platform to showcase the distinctive style of students.

Fogue Athens, also known as Dawgs Who Drip, launched their Instagram account last spring. Since then, they’ve gained over 1,800 followers and have posted over 220 unique outfits. The account features outfits from DMs Fogue receives of people spotting fashion pieces they like on campus. In a conversation with the Founder of Fogue, they describe their experience running the account, the inspiration behind it, and ultimately their advice to students:

What inspired you to start Fogue?

“I took inspiration from Fogue Atlanta because I saw the way they created a space for everyone who is into fashion. I love the different styles that they post. I wanted to bring that here to Athens since there are so many different styles and I feel like there is a generalization that everyone here at UGA/Athens dresses a certain way.”

What advice would you give to students about finding their style?

“I would tell people to tell people to not be afraid to try different styles and to not be scared to wear whatever they want to wear.”

How would you define your fashion taste? What has been the most realistic/simplest way you have integrated sustainability into your personal style?

“I would describe my fashion as timeless. I like to buy/invest in pieces that I feel like I will wear for a long time and fit me very well. I also go thrifting a lot and I buy at local pop-ups from different resellers or people that make their own clothes”

What has been your favorite fit so far?

Dawgs Who Drip is more than just a collection of fits. It’s a testament to the artistic element of fashion. Fashion speaks to people in a plethora of ways; it grants us an opportunity to express ourselves every day in unique and distinctive ways. Fogue Athens makes a statement by amplifying the power of individual style; your individual style is ultimately your power- it’s you.
